Another MOT!

Well, I decided it's time to get the old CF back on the road. After fixing the luton at last year (ripped out ALL the wood) only to find rot at the back too I had lost interest and with a few family problems to deal with was going to sell the old girl. It had been stood in the same place for 2 years and 11 months (according to the tax disk!) with just an occasional start up. About a month ago I came home from work to find a note on the CF from a scrappy offering to take the CF away. I phoned the guy and asked why he had put it on there. He told me one of my neighbours had phoned him and asked him to tow it away. This ed me off quite a bit. He got quit abusive, telling me it's an eye sore and should be scrapped. Okay, it's been standing for nearly three years but it's on private property and SORNd so no one could complain. This finally kicked me into thinking about getting it back on the road. I was off on hols to sunny Somerset on the Saturday so decided to take it to my local garage and leave it with them to see what it would take to get it through an MOT remembering that it had been stood for 1 month short of three years. I charged the battery, pumped up the tyres, gave it a quick oil & plug change and drove it to the garage. I went away and waited for the phone call. They didn't phone. I finished work early enough today to be able to get to the garage. I turned up expecting the worst but there was my CF looking lovely and clean. They had washed it. Oh well, I thought, even they were to embarresed to have a dirty CF parked up. I found the boss and he led me into the office. I was starting to get worried, 3 years without moving, it had to be bad news. He rattled off what had been done,

2 new front wheel cylinders
1 new headlight
free up and adjust back brakes
2 wiper blades

Total bill including MOT was a touch over £300. My jaw nearly hit the floor. I expected more than double that. Not bad for 3 years standing. Okay, I could have saved a lot by doing it myself but I wouldn't have bothered and the CF would still be standing. Now all I need to do is tax it and at least I can drive it around. Okay, I still have to fix some rot in the back but now it's road legal again I've got a lot more enthusiasm again ( and about bloody time I can hear one or two of you who know me shouting )

Hopefully it won't take me another 3 years to fix the rot

Well Done.

Hi Colin.Pleased to hear you got the MOT ok.Sometimes all it takes is a bit of "the neighbours moaning" and a bit of anger at the cheek of em, to renew the enthusiasm.!! If they hadnt have moaned about it,it would probably still be sitting there.!! So well done mate. regards Nick.
