Helga Part 1 - How (not to) buy a CF

How did you come by your CF? We had bene talking for a while about buying a 'van when I came across a CF for sale on ebay - 1978 2.3 petrol for £1500 which looked good in the 'photos so I emailed the owner, asking to see it since the advert said it was in the Cotswolds. Owner, Hermann replied saying was welcome to visit and test her out, unfortumately had relocated it to his home in Dortmund! Forgot all about it until he emailed me about two months later saying he was coming to England - made non-committal reply and was surprised to find him turning up at 9am the following Saturday with the CF on the back of the trailer! She seemed very solid and to run okay apart from a cracked exhaust manifold and a leaking steering boot, plus fact that wife was completely sold on idea so... Unfortunately had no money at the time - no problem said Hermann, send it me when you do, and left the CF, soon to be named Helga with us. Luckily I was owed some back pay which came through that month. When I came to check Helga's papers I found that she had only had two owners in her 22 years and 85000 miles and the first owner had lived in Olton, about 5 miles down the road from us! If anyone is interested will continue the saga....

Continuation

Alan, I feel suitably ashamed! Actually I did write the next part a while ago but I either wrote too much or pressed a button by mistake and it all disappeared. Will try again soon....

you were an influence

i decided to write the story about our trials and tribulations after reading your half a story. you robert inspired me to write about it, this site that colin so marvellously set up allowed me to start it, and the members gave me the encouragement to finish it, when not so long ago we couldnt even talk about it. its now finished. many thanks to you all.
