Tax and MOT ex.

Hi to all,

By this July 7th my old Bedford will be 40 years old at the moment it is on Sorn can I apply to DVLA after that date for that exemption or will I have to re-tax and re-test, done three hundred miles since last MOT test?

Take a look at' '.do_url('https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles') and '
'.do_url('https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/historic-classic-vehicles-mot-exemption-criteria/historic-classic-vehicles-mot-exemption-criteria')

When was it registered? It looks like it runs from each January If it was registered after Jan 8th 1981 then you will have to wait until next year. The following is from the gov. web site

'Vehicles exempt from vehicle tax
If your vehicle was built before 1 January 1981, you can stop paying vehicle tax from 1 April 2021.

If you do not know when your vehicle was built, but it was registered before 8 January 1981, you do not need to pay vehicle tax from 1 April 2021. '

Tax and MOT.

Hi Colin.

Bedford is forty years old as date of first reg. was the 17th of July 1981, but L thought it went by the manufacture date not date of reg. which would have been much earlier.
The date of reg. would have been at the point of sale, 17th of July 1981.

Hi Doug

Looking at the gov web site it says if it was manufactured before Jan 81 then it's tax free. The VIN will show what year it was made but not the month. Type the VIN into the checker '('.do_url('http://www.cf-uk.co.uk/vin/vin.php')) and it'll tell you the year. If it's 1980 or earlier then you should be okay. If it says 1981 then it looks like you've got to wait until January next year. The 17th July would be too late for this years cut off date.

I really must fix the forum software to make links work again!
