End of the road.

Hi to all,

Just done the sorn document to put the old Bedford off the road until March 2013, time to do a bit of bodywork and invest in a new set of plug leads.
Because of the frost I have already drained of the water heater and supply tank and pipes, checked the antifreeze strength we are now all set for this very cold winter that is forecast.

Doug.

Hi Doug,

Lets hope this really bitterly cold winter turns out to be like the wonderful hot summer that was forecast back in the spring!

End of the road.

Hi leatherwalnut,

No chance of that the power companies and fuel companies have got the most accurate weather forecast thats why all the price's have went up, instead of a 3 million profit they will have a 5 million profit next year.

Hello Doug,
We, too, have just topped up the anti-freeze but fully intend to take it through the winter. I must confess sometimes it's hard to motivate yourself to go out in the van and wild camp but, once we're out there, still love it: perhaps a little bit cold.

End of the road.

Hi to all,

I have a tarp covering over the front end so that I can still get on and do some body repairs to the front wings, doors and bonnet and around the windsceen mask just to smarten the old tub up a bit for next year.
And I will be saving my pennies to buy a spare inlet manifold that I can use to mod up to take a stromberg carb, so plenty to keep me working my way through the winter months.

Doug.

Had a lovely drive around a cold but sunny NE Fife today, then out with the cushions and curtains and put to bed for the winter, now Sorn.
Can't believe it is going to be six months
Saying that, it was a very enjoyable year, managed a few shows, met up with some good friends, made some new ones and even got a second in one show. Roll on next year.

End of the road.

Hi Ally,

Yes it is going to be a long winter, I hate that clock change it just confirms the begining of a long wait until spring.
I think the bears have got it right feed up and go to sleep for a few months.

Hello Ally & Hayley,
Good to hear you had a good year. As for the shows north of the border, Ann and myself will be sitting down New Year's day constructing a new list. Hopefully we can all meet up again and maybe some new faces would like to join us next year.

End of the road.

Hi to all,

Well that maybe the camper is off the road until next year but I have to keep the brain working, so I am using my gifted inlet manifold to experiment with a change of carb from weber downdraft to stromberg sidedraft.
Which means working out a way of mounting the stromberg in the space above the manifold and making up an air cleaner intake system, an accelerator and coke set up and a support plate to take the weight of the card.
I have ordered a 90 degre alloy tube to which I will have to weld a flange to match the manifold and one to match the stromberg varible needle carb.
All this must fit in the space between the slant manifold and the engine cover
a space of eight inches, and then all it has to do is work.

Doug.

Hello Doug,
Good luck with this latest project, I look forward to seeing the finished results and if you could save on the fuel bill, all the better

End of the road.

Hi to all,

Well it has to be the end of the road for the stromberg carb experiment, at least for now because the stromberg I have has a faulty needle valve and floods after about 2mins. of running.
So no time to warm up to tune the carb mixture, checked and reset the carb but the needle valve seems to stick open and then the carb floods killing the engine.
If I can get a needle valve to replace the faulty one I will try the carb setup again because I now know it will work, and it can be done without any major changes to the inlet manifold.

End of the road.

Hi to all,

Would you credit it I have found a needle valve and a jet for a stromberg carb, so its not just me that keeps old and out of date parts for cars long gone to scrap.
All thats needed now is for me to strip down the old carb and fit the new/old parts, they will need a good clean first but at least I get a second go at the conversion.

Doug.
